Here is how I shoot my CB's. Alien Bee 1600 camera left in a 36" Octa and an AB 800 camera right in a 36" brolly. Both are fired by Pocket Wizards.

Relationships with Music portraiture

A musician has a relationship with music that we can see (as well as hear) if we look closely. The way they hold themselves and their instruments show us their relationship with their music. The joy of performing, the dedication to the music, the interaction with other musicians; these things are all part of their relationship with music. I saw them in my band members and other musicians I have had the privilege to be around. As a band parent I struggled to create a concert image of my band members that captured this relationship. Most times they were obstructed by other band members or a music stand or just too far back in the ensemble to photograph or in a section that was not well lit. Sound familiar?

The way to capture this relationship is in a controlled environment, not on stage where the lighting is spotty and views are restricted. We want to celebrate with you the Relationship of the musician and his/her instrument. This session will be on a simple set, just the musician and their instrument. The result will be a piece of art that you will cherish forever.

2 speedlite test

A 2 Speedlite test. A 580EXII into a 24x24 Lastolite Eazybox camera left and a 430EXII into a grid.

Flashes were controlled by 2 FlexTT5's and a MiniTT1 on the camera. An AC3 on the MiniTT1 to control the power levels. Very easy to control that way!

CS5 is great. There were portions of two individuals crowding my compositition but with CS5's Content Aware I was able to remove them. Now I recognize that I did not do a great job but for a first time effort I was very pleased.
